I am a Pentecostal.  I speak in tongues. 

I have personally spoken in tongues for over thirty years and have studied its intimacy and presence for forty years now.

This means that I know more about the Speaking in Tongues experience than anyone who does not and has never experienced this Speaking in Tongues phenomena.  

So if you’re interested in the Truth of the matter and “the-rest-of-the-story", I suggest you fine-tune in and take some notes.

If you do not now speak in tongues and are searching the Search Engine Portals looking for Revelation knowledge to apply to your own life and ministry, why are you reading the garbage articles being put out by those who don’t even speak in tongues?!!

That’s just stupid. 

If the Writer of the returned search engine article does not and has not ever spoken in unknown tongues – then do not pass go – exit quickly lest your mind be tainted with a trashy interpretation of what God considers Holy.

If you want to build a house, you don’t go to a hospital and ask to speak to a doctor. 

If your toilet is plugged up in the country, you don’t go to the College Cafeteria in the city and ask to speak to the Chief Cook.

Please, please, please – start getting your Glossolalia Pentecostal information on speaking in tongues from knowledgeable professionals – i.e., the ones who actually have experienced this Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the outward evidence of speaking in tongues.

When I google the phrase, “speaking in tongues” – I come up with mostly trash on the front search engine results page.  And yes – this most certainly includes the videos.

This is going to change – I prophesy it according to the faith I exercise in my Lord Jesus Christ and His Spirit of Holiness.

THE HISTORY BEHIND THE MEANING OF
GLOSSOLALIA SPEAKING IN TONGUES

Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues comes from the Bible.  God wrote the Bible thorugh faithful servants who listened to His still, small voice and who sought His guidance through diligent prayer and fasting.

If you don’t know God – you won’t understand speaking in tongues.

If you don’t know Jesus – His Son - you won’t understand speaking in tongues.

If you don’t know God’s Spirit of Holiness, a.k.a. the Holy Spirit - you won’t understand speaking in tongues.

If you are going through Google and the other search engines frantically researching this speaking in tongues phenomena, then “Hello world!”, at least get your information from those who have experience the sweetness of its aroma, the magnitude of its power, and the blessed and blissful confidence that speaking in tongues explodes within a person’s innermost being.

There are two prime-time places in the Old Testament of the Bible that Pentecostals generally refer to in their teachings concerning Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues.  Both of these locations are briefly covered below – mentioned more as reference points for the Reader’s understanding whether than full enlightenment on speaking in tongues.

ISAIAH’S OLD TESTAMENT WORD ON
GLOSSOLALIA SPEAKING IN TONGUES

Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues comes from the Bible.  It is never spoken of directly, in the Old Testament; though its resultant experience is indirectly referred to by Isaiah. 

Check out Isaiah 28:11-12 when you have time. 

I will put it in quickly here, to save you some time – but won’t go into it much, as there are far more important bible study topics for us to cover concerning Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues as experience by those of the Pentecostal faith.

Let me first state that all scripture  references given in this article are from the KJV King James Version of the Holy Bible. 

Here we go:

11For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

 12To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

JOEL’S OLD TESTAMENT WORD ON 
GLOSSOLALIA SPEAKING IN TONGUES

28And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

 29And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

 30And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.

 31The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the LORD come.

 32And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.

In this Old Testament passages above, the eternal God of the Ages who could see the future as well as the past, chose to foretell those who were listening to His Spiritual voice – of the pouring out of His Spirit and power upon all “whosoever(s) who believed in Him”. 

This passage is again referenced in the New Testament by Peter, one of the Lord’s main Twelve Apostles.  Peter mentions it in Acts 2:16-21, as he preaches publicly to thousands of listeners right after he himself received the Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues experience.

What Peter told the masses about this Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues experience is given word-for-word, in the verses below.

16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

 17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

 18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

 19And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

 20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:

 21And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call o the name of the Lord shall be saved. 

This moment in time that involved Peter and 119 other disciples of the crucified and risen Jesus of Nazereth, is commonly referred to in Pentecostal circles as Thee Day of Pentecost – when God’s Spirit was poured out in power unto the believing faithful who were watching and waiting and hopeful to receive of His Goodness, here in the land of the living.

Now, in 2010 and hereafter, any day of the week can be your own personal Day of Pentecost, if you have never experienced the sweet aroma of God’s personal presence through the Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues phenomena.

Other than Isaiah’s  aloof Old Testament verse and Joel’s Chapter Two prophecy – the Old Testament is pretty much silent on the speaking in tongues subject.

The Book of Acts in the New Testament however, has several instances involving numerous events in which those who confessed their faith in Jesus Christ were not only baptized in water – were not only baptized in the Holy Spirit, but were also given the Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues gift experience unto boldness and power unto their own personal greater witnessing endeavors.

THE PURPOSE OF THE MINISTRY OF 
GLOSSOLALIA SPEAKING IN TONGUES

First and foremost concerning the purpose of Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues, we see in Isaiah 28:11 above, that God said that He Himself in all His glory, will actually speak in tongues to His people.  It’s not that God Himself will do the speaking in tongues, for this is impossible to God. 

You see, folks, speaking in tongues is the experience of speaking in unknown tongues – and there just aren’t any “unknown” tongues to God.  He flat knows them all!

Yes, Isaiah 28:11-12 also says that the people would not listen to God when He spoke, but this does  not negatge the fact that God actually intended to use strange tongues, albeit – languages, to speak to His people.

Why would God use Glossolalia to speak to His people?  Because He wanted to get their attention and reveal things to them which would help them grow more in knowledge and wisdom concerning eternal matters at hand.

You see folks, many things which take place in the Eternal realm of practices, are predicated on events which have occurred and are even now occurring, on Planet Earth.

Point Being: What we do in the here-and-now, determines our position and place in the Eternal realm of the spiritual creatures who serve an Almighty God.

Will we Pentecostals be exercising the Gift of Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues when we are in the LORD’s presence in Heaven?  Answer: No. 

Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues is not needed in the heavenly realm because we shall see Him face-to-face and hear His voice of many waters.

Secondly concerning the purpose of Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues, we acknowledge the Prophet Joel’s involvement as expressed by Peter the Apostle – to the extent that

1. The Spirit of God would be poured out upon ALL flesh (i.e. every human being)
2. Young men would see visions
3. Old men would dream dreams
4. They shall prophesy, says God
5. Signs and Wonders shall be performed on the Earth
6. Salvations shall occur, as those who release their faith in God are redeemed
   

Thirdly concerning the purpose of Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues, Paul’s Letter to the Corinthian Church tells us that when a Pentecostal Believer utilizes the Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues expression in his or her daily walk with Jesus, then self-edification unto Spiritual Holiness takes place within the spirit, soul and body of the Believer.

This is big time power folks.  This is Freedom.  This is Deliverance!

The chains come off.  No more bondage.  No more darkness.

We Pentecostals walk in the light as He is the Light of every move of our spiritual being.

There are other Biblical purposes concerning why we Pentecostals diligently practice the LORD’s Gift to us of Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues.

MAJOR AND MINOR MISTAKES

You ask, “Are there actually mistakes when it comes to Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues?”

The answer is unfortunately, YES.

This was one of the main reasons the Bible contains the Apostle Paul’s prime-time Letters to the Corinthian Church.  They were misusing not only the Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues gift, but other power gifts as well.

Paul wrote to them in an effort to correct their skewed practices, so that they might be edified and exhorted more in their service to the Body of Christ and its regal Head – even Jesus our Lord.

When we talk about Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues and its associated mistakes of both the centuries of yesterday and today, we must understand that there are both major and minor mistakes and misunderstandings that are prevalent.

I personally consider as major – the stupidity of the non-Pentecostal Church-at Large regarding their Official – in writing – Doctrines of Man concerning today’s Pentecostal expressions of Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues. 

Jesus is coming soon, did you know that?

He is not only at the door, but His foot is in the process of pushing it open!

If you have eyes to see this and hear His Spirit speaking, you will already know the depth of what I am saying.

Non-Pentecostals who haven’t released their faith unto receiving the Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues Spirit-presence experience, should maybe consider taking their heads out of their butts and confessing that the God of Yesterday, is the same God as the God of Today and Tomorrow.

I have never met a Pentecostal in my 40 years of speaking in tongues in numerous churches, who believed that ONLY men (not women) were allowed to be Holy enough to “receive” the Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues experience.

I have also never met a Pentecostal who believed that it was Biblically incorrect for ANY man or woman to ever SEEK the Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues experience.

In addition, I have never met a Pentecostal who believed that the sign-gifts were NOT available today, for whosoever believeth.

It’s obvious from beliefs such as these, that the Last Days increase of knowledge is still waiting to manifest itself in some legacy-lame circles of Biblical theoretical thought.

MINOR MISTAKES ON 
SPEAKING IN TONGUES

The minor mistakes revolving Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues as done by diverse Pentecostal assemblies, are listed as follows:

1. Believing that Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues is synonymous with the substance of things hoped for – the evidence of things not seen…albeit – faith. 
   
   Faith is a substance, whereas Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues is a Pentecostal person using physical vocal cords to verbally speak expressions unto and on behalf of God.
   
   
2. Believing that Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues is one of the Fruits of the Holy Spirit, as itemized by Paul in his Letter to the Galatians (5:22-23). 
   
   Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues is when a Pentecostal speaks in unknown tongues by faith, whereas fruit is when said speaking in tongues results in the manifestation of works which bring glory and honour and dominion and praise to our LORD God above.
   
   
3. Believing that Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues is NOT an evidence of being Baptized in the Holy Spirit, a.k.a. – being filled with the Spirit of Holiness. 
   
   Fruit which exalts the LORD’s Holiness Presence is the primary evidence of being filled with the Spirit of the LORD’s Holiness.
   
   Part of the Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues expression is giving God praise according to His Goodness and Greatness. 
   
   Thus, Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues can be considered as “one” of the many manifestations of Biblical Fruit which exalts God’s Spirit of Holiness before those above, on and below the Earth.
   
   
4. Lastly, a minor mistake is believing that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is synonymous with the Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues.  The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is per John 5:37-39, when one’s belly is filled to overflowing with God’s Spirit of Holiness such that He (this living Spirit of Holiness) cannot be contained; hence the Biblical use of the phrase: OUT OF his belly shall flow…
   
   Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues is what occurs OUTSIDE the belly, when the Believer release his or her faith to receive of its fullness.
   
   Can a Believer ask for and receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit and not give outward expression to this Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues?  Answer: Yes.
   
   All Believers receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit upon asking in faith out of a sincere, repentant, Word-washed, Blood-bought heart.  They don’t have to speak in tongues as a result of their receiving – but they get to – IF they want to give expression to its voice.
   

MAJOR MISTAKES ON SPEAKING IN TONGUES

How do non-Pentecostals resolve the wide expressions being illustrated by Pentecostals receiving the Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues in today’s society? 

Let’s cover three of these reasons below:

1. Many non-Pentecostals consider this a type of self-induced hypnosis, wherein the Believer is being seduced by the dark side into a State of Willful Deception – thinking themselves as entering into a greater state of Godliness, when actually they are simply re’enacting the Garden of Eden scene of being deceived by earthly things.
   
   To which I reply: I speak in Pentecostal Tongues and have done so for over 30 years; and I publicly confess in the here-and-now that the only inducement I release myself to in exercising the Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues gift which has been given to me, is the inducement to give my LORD and God greater glory unto glory in His presence. 
   
   I induce myself to serve Him who did for me when “did’ing” was needed, and who died for me when I deserved death for the wrongdoings I had committed before His Face.

2. Secondly, some non-Pentecostals extend #1’s brain-wave pattern of thought into stating that Pentecostal Groups of professing Believers are Group-Possessed with hyper-hysteria of a type and form of Willful Group Psychosis – wherein when one starts speaking in tongues in a group church setting, others eagerly place themselves into a trancelike mental state of public participation.
   
   To which I reply:  Hogwash; this type of rational has no depth of Biblical support, period.  This answer is given when a non-Pentecostal is asked a question and he has to answer “something”, no matter how empty is its Truth foundation.  He answers something so he won’t feel and look stupid in front of his peers. 
   
   In reality, this non-Pentecostal should really have just kept his mouth shut, instead of opening it and really looking stupid to the Pentecostal World-at-Large!
   
   
3. Thirdly, there are those who actually attribute this Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues work of God in faithful Pentecostals as being satanically-induced. 
   
   They cry out vociferously in a vehement voice of derisive ridicule, “It’s NOT God, it’s really Satan!”
   
   To which I reply:  These non-Pentecostals actually believe more in Satan than in God’s Gift of Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues!  Amazing Dr. Watson, simply amazing!
   
   So what these non-Pentecostal folk are saying in all their Doctrines of Men wisdom, is that Satan is doing something that God has refused to do.  They say God has refused to use Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues in the 21^st Century, but Satan has full license to use it whenever and however he chooses – to lead sincere Believers down the path to ruin.
   
   Folks, 1^st Corinthians tells us that when we Pentecostals speak in tongues, we are not speaking unto men, BUT UNTO GOD!
   
   So if we Pentecostals are speaking tongues unto God, how is it possible that Satan can rear his ugly head and shove God aside from receiving said speaking in tongues unto His Glory?
   
   Friends, non-Pentecostals can only twist the Word of God around so many times and varied ways, until their own words come back to haunt and choke their reasonings and justifications for their own Doctrines of Man.
   
   
4. Fourthly, non-Pentecostals inform us that they have spoken to hundreds of Hebrew and Greek scholars who declare that they themselves have NEVER spoken in unknown tongues, so it can’t be a valid experience for the 21^st Century Believer!
   
   To which I reply:  Wow!  Here you are researching a topic on Pentecostals and are going to non-Pentecostal Hebrew and Greek scholars and asking them their professional conclusions.  Did it ever occur to you to go to PENTECOSTAL HEBREW AND GREEK SCHOLARS AND ASK THEIR PROFESSIONAL CONCLUSIONS???
   
   Duh!
   
   Give the Body of Christ a break…keep your day job as a Politician!
   
   
5. Fifth in number, is the fact that non-Pentecostals declare that they don’t need any Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues pseudo experience, because they do quite well on their own.  There native tongue is good enough for them and they know quite well that God understand them when they use it. 
   
   Point Being:  They have shut the door on God in this area of Pentecostal Tongues.  And in doing so, they have therefore limited God in His ability to use them in fulfilling greater earthly works unto God’s glory – in the here-and-now.
   
   
6. Lastly, let’s quickly cover what Wikipedia has to say about Pentecostal Glossalia Speaking in Tongues.  If you look it up and read it, you will find that what you have is a NON-PENTECOSTAL attempting to do a professional interpretation of an Intimacy Experience which he himself has NEVER participated in! 
   
   Talk about an oxy-moron endeavor.
   
   Wikipedia quotes “William J. Samarin, a linguist from the University of Toronto”, who apparently has published an officially researched and documented assessment of his own personal and professional Pentecostal Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues 21^st Century phenomena. 
   
   Mr. Samarin’s assessment was that today’s Pentecostal expressions of Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues is – and I quote – “MEANINGLESS!”
   
   How amazing!  Here we have a linguistic scholar who has never spoken in Pentecostal Tongues trying to define what 21^st Century Speaking in Tongues is to those who actually speak in tongues! 
   
   And he’s doing such a poor job of it, showing nothing but embarrassing ignorance of God’s precious Gift.
   
   In expressive similitude mode, what we have is auto mechanic Mr. Samarin – who has NEVER disassembled a motor, but now he professes to be able to document all the little tips and tweaks it takes to take one apart and put it back together again! 
   
   Just how much weight are you really going to place on his credibility concerning the  inner experiences and intimacies of Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues?  Not much, I hope.

Non-Pentecostals are always trying to explain and rationalize away the fact that the Bible, i.e. the Word of the Eternal Living God whom they claim to believe – actually even talks about the Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues experience; and not in just one solo place they could then declare as a Biblical Exception – but in numerous places they cannot ignore. 

Thus, they are forced to not only acknowledge the Bible’s Pentecostal Tongues phenomena, but to explain its pertinent relevance in today’s manifestation of the varied expressions of those Believers who comprise the multitude of members of the Body of Christ.

1. The Bible says that in Isaiah that God will use stammering lips to show Himself strong on behalf of His people.

3. The Bible says that Joel’s prophecy was fulfilled hundreds of years later, shortly after the Lord Jesus Christ was crucified. 
   
   
4. The Bible says in Acts, as recorded by Luke the Historian, that Believers actually received the Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues experience during his lifetime – in numerous places – both Jew and Gentile alike.
   
   
5. The Bible says in Mark 16, that if you are a confessing Believer in Jesus Christ, that you SHALL speak in new tongues.  Do you have to?  Answer: No, but you get to!
   
   
6. Non-Pentecostals research non-Pentecostal scholars to validate their suppositions concerning the Bible’s Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues 21^st Century expressions.
   
   
7. Non-Pentecostals are actually undermining what God is trying to do through the use of Pentecostal Tongues in today’s here-and-now religious system.
   
   
8. Non-Pentecostals are in reality, limiting themselves out of ignorance to God’s generational gift of Glossolalia Speaking in Tongues for all Believers.
